Movie Recommender – Find Movies and TV Shows by Mood Free Online

Discover the perfect movie or TV show for your current mood with FlickTool’s free MovieJuke — a mood-based movie recommender powered by The Movie Database (TMDb). Set your mood, filter by genre, language, country, runtime, release year, and streaming platform, then get instant personalized recommendations — with a personal watchlist, detailed movie info, and a Surprise Me option for when you can’t decide.

Why Mood-Based Discovery Finds Better Watches

Standard movie browsing puts the burden on you — you open a streaming platform, scroll through hundreds of titles, read descriptions, and still close the app 20 minutes later having watched nothing. The problem is that streaming platforms sort by popularity and algorithm, not by how you actually feel right now.

Mood is the most reliable predictor of what you will actually enjoy watching at any given moment. Someone feeling heartbroken wants something different from someone feeling bored on a Saturday afternoon. MovieJuke flips the discovery process — you start with how you feel, and the recommendations come to you filtered accordingly. The result is less scrolling and more watching.

Export the list as a file to share recommendations with friends or family, or clear it when you are ready to start fresh.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does the mood filter decide which movies to show?

Ans. Each mood maps to a specific set of genres — Happy returns comedies and feel-good films, Heartbroken pulls emotional dramas, Angry surfaces action and thrillers. These mappings filter results through the TMDb API to match your emotional tone.

2. Does the Surprise Me button ignore all my filters?

Ans. Yes. Surprise Me bypasses all active filters — mood, language, country, runtime, and year range — and returns a completely random result from the TMDb database, ideal for discovering something unexpected.

3. Is my Watchlist saved between sessions?

Ans. Yes. Your Watchlist is stored in browser local storage and persists between visits on the same device and browser. Use Export Watchlist to save it as a file for cross-device access or sharing.

4. What does the streaming filter show?

Ans. It narrows results to titles currently available on a specific platform in your selected country, based on TMDb’s watch provider data for that region.

5. Why do results change every time I click Find Matches?

Ans. Each click fetches a fresh random batch from TMDb matching your filters — results are never cached. This lets you keep discovering new titles without changing your filters each time.
